Lambeth

A Central London district, in the Lambeth London Borough is Lambeth (/ˈl mbəθ/), England. Come from its first record in 1062 meaning 'lambs landing place', as Lambehitha, and as Lambeth in 1255, are the origins of the name of Lambeth. As part of the manor of Lambeth Palace, the area in the medieval period experienced some growth that was slight. Lies opposite the southern section of the Palace of Westminster on the Thames, is Lambeth Palace.

The location of two important 13th-century international treaties, were Lambeth and the palace; the Treaty of Lambeth 1212 and the Treaty of Lambeth 1217. The Pottery company of Royal Doulton had, in Lambeth, their principle location for manufacturing for several centuries, following in the earlier manufacturers of delftware's tradition. Part of the Lambeth St Mary ancient parish that is large in Surrey's Brixton hundred, was the current district of Lambeth.

The areas of Clapham and Streatham that had formed part of the Wandsworth Metropolitan Borough were combined to form the responsible area of local government with Lambeth under the London Borough of Lambeth in the reform of local government in 1965. The location of the Archbishop of Canterbury and has been occupied as a residence by the Archbishops since the early 13th century, is Lambeth Palace. Has several areas of public parks and gardens, is Lambeth. A park on old Paradise Street and Lambeth High Street occupying former burial ground is Old Paradise Gardens.

A small public park to the east of Lambeth on Fitzalan walk and includes several open spaces and play areas, is Lambeth Walk Open Space. Another small public park in Lambeth, which was founded on the location in 1968 of the former School of St. Saviour's Salamanca Street, was Pedlars' Park. Open to the public and borders the edge of Lambeth Palace and the neighbouring area of Waterloo and the hospital of St Thomas, is Te Archbishop's Park.

Also in Vauxhall nearby, situated near Kennington more towards the area of South Lambeth is Vauxhall station. Through Lambeth on the Viaduct of Nine Elms to Waterloo, the South Western Main Line runs. Lambeth's north was marshland, crossed by a number of, raised against floods, roads, until the mid-18th century. Drained in the 18th century but is remembered in the Lower Marsh street name was the marshland in the area, known as Lambeth Marshe.

The Poor Law Parish of Lambeth was formed, comprising the St Mary parish, Lambeth, "including, to the Waterloo, St John, Brixton, Kennington, Norwood new churches, the district attached", on December 18, 1835. Built to help educate destitute facilities' children in 1851, although the London and South Western Railway widening in 1904 saw the building reduced in size, was the Lambeth Ragged School. An adult education college, founded in the 1880s, that occupies locations on either side of the boundary between the London boroughs of Southwark and Lambeth, is Morley College.
